What is a Beta Reader?
Unlike the job of an editor, who's primary focus is find those spelling and grammar mistakes, the beta reader is the person we writers fear the most. To put it in simple terms, a beta reader is the person that is the nitpicker of all nitpickers.
Your mission, should you accept it, is to read someone's story to make sure the plot is okay, the characterization is okay and the check the flow of the story. Constructive criticism is the way a beta reader should write their comments. (Ex. Your story sucks, is not contrusctive criticism. Instead of saying it 'sucks' tell the author why it sucks.) Be nice about it. Give the author ideas on how to make their story better.
One of the key things of beta reading is for the beta reader to be familiar with the series in the story, but it is not a requirement. Remember, we don't just carry Scarecrow and Mrs. King fan fiction. We carry a (small one now) variety of shows. If you are still interested in being a beta reader, fill out the form below.
**** The person you are beta reading for, depends on your timeliness. If you can't commit to reading at least ONE STORY a week and offer criticism to that author, please don't apply. Now, this depends on submissions and authors wanting there stories beta read.****
